What this one is for
A 4 hour timer is a brine. Four hours in salt water is the usual window for a chicken before the texture turns, and it is the same number that turns up on cold brew steeping the short way and on a dough with a long bulk.
Four hours is also a half day. It is the shift you signed up for, the drive before a legally required break, and a parking stay that will cost you if you forget.
At this length the setup matters more than the timer. The alarm needs this tab open to sound, and the screen only stays on while the page is in front, so plug the device in and leave the page up.

How it runs
Counts down 4 hr, then beeps. Press Start, or hit Space. The digits turn green while a work block runs and grey on rest.
Sound is on by default: a rising pair for work, a falling pair for rest, a tick for the last three seconds and a three-note finish. Mute with the speaker button. The screen stays on while the timer runs and the tab title shows the time left.
Change anything in Settings under the timer. The last setup you used on this page is remembered in your browser.

- How long should I brine a chicken?
- Four hours in a standard wet brine suits a whole bird or thick pieces. Much longer and the meat starts going spongy.
- Will the alarm sound four hours later?
- Only if this tab is still open. There is no server and no push notification, so a closed tab means no beep.
- Should I worry about the screen turning off?
- The countdown keeps correct time either way. The wake lock holds the display on only while the page is in the foreground, so keep the device on a charger.
- Can I set a different length?
- Yes, set any duration on the timer, or use the 3 hour and 5 hour pages.
