Meditation

Set a duration and a bell interval.

A soft bell every 10 minutes. One at the end.

Meditation timer with interval bells

This meditation timer keeps one clock for your whole sit. A soft bell can ring every 10 minutes, and one rings at the end. Nothing else makes a sound.

What is meditation?

Meditation includes several practices for working with attention. In a simple breath-focused practice, notice your natural breathing and gently return when your attention wanders. You can reserve a quiet moment after breakfast, during a break or after work; choose a time when you can safely give it your attention.

Our introduction to meditation explains a first short practice, possible benefits and what the evidence can tell you. An end bell simply marks the space you have reserved.

Choose what each bell means

For a quiet ten-minute sit, set Session length to 10, turn Interval bell off, leave Start bell off and keep End bell on. Use Preview bell to check the tone and device volume before settling in.

For a session with two parts, set twenty minutes and a bell every ten. You will hear one intermediate bell and one end bell. Decide whether the midpoint marks a change of practice or a simple check-in. The interval-bell guide has more examples.

Understand the whole-session clock

The default is thirty minutes with bells at ten and twenty minutes, then one end bell at thirty. The large countdown measures the whole session; it does not restart at each bell. Start, interval and end bells have separate switches.

If the interval does not divide the session evenly, the final part is shorter. A 25-minute session with ten-minute bells has cues at ten and twenty, then ends at twenty-five. An interval at the exact ending is not played twice.

Choose a session length

Pick a length that fits your practice and available time. Longer is not automatically better. Read how to choose a meditation length, or open one of these schedules.

Screen and sound

Keep the page visible when you need the bell. The timer requests an awake screen, but device settings can refuse it. A locked phone or background page may miss sound cues even though elapsed time is correct when the page resumes.

Sound off mutes all selected bells. Vibration may still occur on devices that support it. For offline use, first load this page online and test a reload without a connection. For distinct work and rest phases, choose the interval timer.

Common questions

What does the bell sound like?

One soft tone that fades over about two seconds, generated in your browser without an audio file. Tap Preview bell to hear it. Offline use still needs the page and its code to be cached.

Can I have one bell at the end and nothing in between?

Yes. Turn Interval bell off and leave End bell on. The start, interval and end bells each have their own switch.

Will the screen stay on while I sit?

The timer requests an awake screen while running. The browser or battery settings can refuse or release that request. Keep the page visible and test your device before relying on bells.

Does the bell ring if my phone locks or I switch apps?

A locked device or hidden page may delay or suppress sound. The countdown can catch up when the same session resumes, but that does not deliver missed bells on time. Keep the page visible when cues matter.

Why is there no countdown tick before the bell?

Because it would break the quiet. The workout timers tick for the last three seconds so you can get ready for a change. A sit doesn’t need that, so this timer stays silent until the bell.
